The coat of arms
On June 26, 1986, the coat of arms was approved by the then Island Council chaired by Island Governor George Soliana. On September 6, 1986, the coat of arms was unveiled in the presence of a large number of Staten members and then Prime Minister Don Martina.
The coat of arms of Bonaire has a shield in blue, it refers to the surrounding sea. A steering wheel in gold refers to the many Bonairean sailors who sailed the world's seas. The heart shield is silver with a red hex, enclosed by a black compass ring. The whole is covered by a marquis' crown with five leaves and four pearls. They refer to the connection with the royal house of Orange.
